Report Card Systems
NEB and A-Level, two institutions · 2024 to 2026
What it is
Two systems that turn exam marks into printed report cards. Staff import results, the system computes grades and analysis, and then renders the whole school as PDFs. The NEB deployment tracks around 790 active students and has produced over 1,200 report cards.
Things worth pointing out
Bulk PDF generation
Report cards render concurrently through Celery groups and chords rather than one at a time. Progress is pushed to the browser over WebSockets as each document finishes, and the batch is zipped and handed back as a download link by email.
Syncing with the Java team's attendance system
Student and enrollment data lives in an attendance system owned by another team on a different stack. Instead of either service reaching into the other's database, I put RabbitMQ between them and wrote consumers on this side, so records stay in sync continuously and each system keeps its own schema.
AI-drafted remarks
Gemini drafts student remarks and performance summaries from the structured marks data. Teachers edit rather than write from scratch, which takes hours out of every reporting cycle.
Audit trail on marks
Academic records keep versioned history, so any change to a mark is attributable and reversible. Excel import and export paths let staff move a full term of results in one operation.
